About

Michael Kim is a practicing architect with over 20 years of experience working on building projects of all types and scales. From concept to completion, Michael is dedicated to the process, the project, and the client. Whether designing, directing, or managing architectural projects, Michael’s objectives are to promote collaboration and engagement between clients, stakeholders, consultants, agencies, builders and trades; balancing project vision with budget, schedules, and owner expectations, and pursuing design excellence, building asset value, and unlocking placemaking potential.

Michael has worked for renowned architecture firms such as Jambhekar Strauss (now part of FX Collaborative), Woods Bagot, and Skidmore Owings & Merrill (SOM) as a designer on important projects like Time Warner Center and Midtown Roppongi, and served as a design associate on One World Center managing a small team focused on the facade of the tower. He was also a sole-proprietor of his own firm as well as a partner in Architecture Rik Ekstrom & Associates (ARExA) leading the technical efforts for the WeLive social living concept for WeWork. From the spring of 2016 to the summer of 2023, Michael was a design director at Brookfield Property Partners managing significant repositioning projects in New York City such as Two Bryant Park, Grace Plaza, One Liberty Plaza lobby, Brooklyn Commons, as well as projects in Houston such as Houston Center, Two & Three Allen Center, and the C. Baldwin Hotel exterior and public spaces.

Michael graduated from Amherst College in 1991 with a Bachelor of Arts Magna Cum Laude in Sculpture. He also graduated from Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design in 1996 with a Master of Architecture degree.

Michael is currently a licensed architect in New York, Connecticut and New Jersey and a member of the AIA and NCARB.
